Dang it feels good to be a Wildcat!

For the second time in school history, the University of Kentucky Men’s Tennis team has claimed the SEC Championship.  The last time the Cats accomplished this feat was in 1992; at least something good happened to Kentucky that year (Stupid DUKE!).  The Wildcats completed its undefeated conference schedule with a 6-1 victory over the Vanderbilt Commodores.

Seniors Eric Quigley and Alex Musialek led the way for the Cats, both with victories over ranked opponents in their singles match-ups.  The rest of the #7 ranked Wildcats followed suit, winning three of the four remaining singles matches, and also sweeping all three doubles match-ups.  The victory over the ‘Dores clinched the #1 seed in this week’s SEC tournament, scheduled to take place this Thursday in Starkville, Mississippi.

It was no small task to remain undefeated in a conference that features 8 of the top-25 ranked teams in the country; however, the Cats have bigger fish to fry.   Head Coach, Dennis Emery, was very excited for his two senior leaders, as well as the team’s accomplishments, so far this season.  He was very clear that they are not fully satisfied and have not yet achieved all their goals for this season. Emery stated, “It is great to celebrate and fantastic what we have done so far, but our goal was to win the conference and go to Final Four of NCAAs. We have a lot in front of us.”

Nothing excites me more than to hear about the continued success of the University of Kentucky in nearly every sport in which they compete.  It is a great time to be a Wildcat fan and I cannot wait to see what the remainder of 2012 has in store for us, Big Blue Nation!
